Holy God, you are our king, yet our allegiances can be divided.
You ask us to gather in the poor,
the needy, the distressed,
the persecuted, the huddled masses yearning to be free,
but we have selfishly wanted our own way and rejected those you have called us to serve.
You have called us to declare a season of justice, to be a nation that is conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that ALL people are created equal,
yet we declare a tyranny of the majority, settling for our way instead of your way.
You call us to protect the outcast, the lost, and the forsaken, yet we continue to ignore them by our actions and our policies.
Forgive us God, we are easily swayed. With shaking hearts we ask, “Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.”
AMEN.
